For home improvement projects in 2026, the most useful calculators are paint (how many litres for your room), tile (how many tiles with wastage), and square footage (measuring any space). Boring Math covers all of these free with no account. For outdoor projects, the Mulch Calculator and Fence Calculator handle garden quantities. For energy savings, the Solar Panel Calculator estimates payback period and annual savings.

It depends on the room dimensions, number of coats, and the coverage rate of your paint. A typical room (4m x 3m with 2.4m ceilings) needs about 5-6 litres for two coats after subtracting doors and windows. Use the Paint Calculator with your exact measurements to get a precise figure and avoid buying too much or too little.
Calculate the total area in square metres, then divide by the area of one tile to get the number of tiles. Add 10% for standard rooms or 15% for diagonal patterns and complex layouts to cover cuts and breakage. The Tile Calculator handles this automatically and rounds up to whole tiles.
Multiply the length by the width in feet. For a 12ft x 10ft room, that gives 120 square feet. For irregular rooms, break the space into rectangles, calculate each area, and add them together. The Square Footage Calculator supports rectangular, circular, and triangular shapes and converts between square feet and square metres.
Measure the length and width of your bed in feet or metres, choose your desired depth (typically 2-3 inches for weed suppression), and multiply all three to get cubic volume. One cubic yard of mulch covers roughly 160 square feet at 2 inches deep. The Mulch Calculator converts this into bags or bulk cubic yards.
For most UK homeowners, solar panels pay for themselves in 8-12 years and last 25-30 years. A typical 4kW system costs around £6,000-£8,000 and generates about 3,400 kWh per year, saving £500-£700 annually on electricity bills. The Solar Panel Calculator estimates your specific payback period based on roof size, location, and energy usage.
Multiply the appliance wattage by the hours you use it, divide by 1,000 to get kWh, then multiply by your electricity rate. For example, a 2kW heater running 4 hours a day at 24.5p/kWh costs about £1.96 per day. The Electricity Cost Calculator does this instantly for any appliance and shows daily, weekly, monthly, and annual costs.
