How to Use This Calculator
Enter a start date and an end date using the date pickers. The calculator instantly shows the difference in multiple units.
Use the include end date toggle to control whether the end date itself is counted. This is useful when counting the length of a stay or event duration.
Enable business days to see how many working days (Monday to Friday) fall within your date range. Weekend days are shown separately.
The conversion reference table shows your date difference expressed in days, weeks, months, years, hours, and minutes for quick comparison.
Understanding the Results
Total Days - The exact number of calendar days between your two dates. This is the most precise measurement.
Breakdown - Shows the difference as a combination of years, months, and days. For example, 400 days would show as 1 year, 1 month, and 4 days.
Business Days - The number of weekdays (Monday through Friday) in the range. Public holidays are not automatically excluded as they vary by location.
Approximate Values - Months and years are shown as decimals because months have different lengths (28-31 days) and years can be 365 or 366 days.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later date. This calculator converts both dates to their numeric representations and divides the difference by the number of milliseconds in a day (86,400,000). The result is the exact number of calendar days between the two dates.
What is the difference between calendar days and business days?
Calendar days include every day (Monday through Sunday). Business days, also called working days, only count weekdays (Monday through Friday) and exclude Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not automatically excluded as they vary by country.
Should I include the end date when counting days?
It depends on what you are counting. If you want to know how many days something lasts (for example, a holiday from the 1st to the 5th), you would include the end date (5 days). If you want the gap between two events, you would exclude the end date (4 days). Use the toggle in the calculator to switch between these modes.
How many business days are in a year?
A typical year has approximately 260 to 262 business days (52 weeks times 5 working days, adjusted for how weekends fall). The exact number depends on what day of the week the year starts and whether it is a leap year. Public holidays will further reduce the number of actual working days.
How do I calculate months between two dates accurately?
Months vary in length (28 to 31 days), so there is no single exact conversion. This calculator provides both an approximate decimal month count (using an average of 30.4375 days per month) and a precise breakdown showing whole years, whole months, and remaining days.
Does this calculator account for leap years?
Yes. The calculator uses the native JavaScript Date object which correctly handles leap years. February 29th is properly counted in leap years (every 4 years, except centuries not divisible by 400). The day count between dates is always accurate regardless of leap years.
